The Cantonment was built in late 50's with the support of the US as part of the military assistance to Pakistan. Its construction was supervised by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was built according to American standards.


Cholistan desert fell in the domain of princely state of Bahawalpur. The desert had no specialized management under the state administration till 1945. In 1945, a separate Cholistan Development Branch was created in Agriculture Department of the State. The initial functions identified for the branch were conservation and improvement of water sources, improvement of sheep breeding and promotion of wool industry, and promotion of cottage industries particularly woolen handlooms. A Cholistan Development Officer was given the responsibility of heading this newly created branch.  This arrangement continued till merger of the State with Province of West Pakistan in 1954.


Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works was established in mid fifties as a project of Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) and incorporated as a public limited company in 1957, managed by a Board of Directors with Managing Director as the Chief Executive.

Karachi Shipyard is situated at west wharf Karachi and spread over an area of 71 acres. It has a large shipbuilding hall, two block fabrication areas, three shipbuilding berths, two dry docks, a well equipped machine shop and a large grit blasting and painting facility with modern machinery for paint application under controlled environment as per international standards. A ship lift and transfer system with a lifting capacity of 7881 tons and 13 in number parking stations is being installed which is planned to complete by end 2018.


The National Accountability Bureau is Pakistan's apex anti-corruption organization. It is charged with the responsibility of elimination of corruption through a holistic approach of awareness, prevention and enforcement. It operates under the National Accountability Ordinance-1999. With its headquarter at Islamabad, it has four regional offices in the provincial capitals and one at Rawalpindi.
